With the mediator in place, we’re on to our second session with the university from 10 am-4 pm in University Hall room 650! This means going over some of the items we’ve previously tabled (such as Additional Employment, Leaves and Holidays, and No Strike clauses) in addition to working our way towards financial issues (slowly but surely). It’s going to be a longer session so even if you’re able to stop by for a little bit, it’s a great idea to have a rotating number of people attending to keep up the visibility. It’s your contract so come on over!

The Stewards’ Council and the Direct Action Working Group (DAWG) will be holding an important joint meeting in University Hall 2028 on Tuesday, November 27 at 4:00pm. All GEO stewards and any other interested members are strongly encouraged to attend. We will be further developing our plans for the strike drive, departmental organizing, and a bargaining survey.
You can RSVP on our Facebook page at: http://www.facebook.com/events/490884714290318/?fref=tck

At the last General Membership Meeting, GEO members voted to begin a strike drive, in preparation for and with the hope to avoid a strike.

Part of the organizing effort that any member can participate in is going office door to office door to talk with fellow members about their experiences as graduate employees and address any questions or thoughts they may have. If you’re interested in doing this but are unsure of how to make the approach, the Direct Action Working Group has the answer.

Join us Monday, November 19th at 4:00pm for a workshop on door to door organizing. The workshop will be in the GEO office, 815 W. Van Buren, Ste. 203 (above Giordano’s). You can RSVP for it on our Facebook event page; be sure to invite your colleagues, too: http://www.facebook.com/events/346430435452775/

Can’t make it but still want to help? E-mail us at organizing@uic-geo.net and we’ll be in touch.
