Come celebrate the beginning of the 2013-2014 school year (or mourn the end of summer) with the GEO. It is the start of a new year, and there’s a lot to be excited about: $500 pay increases, the increased university contribution to Campus Care and better protections against discrimination. All of which were won in the most recent contract negotiations. Stop by after class, meet other graduate employees and enjoy a few beverages and snacks- on us!

NEXT BARGAINING SESSION MONDAY, APRIL 22, SSB CONFERENCE ROOM C
We need the biggest turnout ever if we are going to settle the contract on Monday! Join us in Student Services Building (Racine & Harrison), Conference Room C from 9:00am to 5:00pm (possibly later: check Facebook and Twitter on Monday for updates). This is our last bargaining session before the end of the strike authorization vote! You will be able to cast a strike vote ballot at the bargaining session if you haven’t already.
STRIKE VOTING CONTINUES MONDAY
If you haven’t participated in the Strike Authorization Vote, your last chance to cast a paper ballot is Monday. WEST CAMPUS: School of Public Health lobby, 10:00am to 4:00pm. EAST CAMPUS: Science & Engineering South breezeway (weather permitting), 10:00am to 2:00pm. AT THE BARGAINING SESSION: in Conference Room C of the Student Services Building from 9:00am until bargaining ends. Make sure your voice heard in this important vote!
The Intent to Strike vote passed almost unanimously at tonight’s general membership meeting. This means that GEO will file a notice of intent to strike with the state labor board tomorrow. The membership also elected a strike committee, who will present one or more strike plans at the next GMM.
Meanwhile, organizing for a possible strike continues tomorrow at an emergency Stewards’ Council meeting at 1:30pm at the GEO office (815 W. Van Buren, Suite 203; use the Halsted entrance). All Stewards are strongly encouraged to attend and all GEO members are welcome.

With a bargaining session coming up that deals directly with the remaining issues, including economics like wages, fees, and health care, it’s more important than ever that GEO members fill out the Strike Survey, located here:http://bit.ly/Ylf4Kj
Your input is invaluable because it will help the bargaining team prioritize these very important remaining issues. Ultimately it’s your contract, so you have the say!
Once you’ve filled out the Strike Survey, join your colleagues for the General Membership Meeting on Wednesday, February 6th from 5:30 pm-7:30 pm in the Hull House Dining Hall (800 S. Halsted St.). There will be a bargaining report back from Monday’s session, a discussion of survey results, and an open discussion of what next steps you the members want to take. Food will be provided, so see you there!

With the mediator in place, we’re on to our second session with the university from 10 am-4 pm in University Hall room 650! This means going over some of the items we’ve previously tabled (such as Additional Employment, Leaves and Holidays, and No Strike clauses) in addition to working our way towards financial issues (slowly but surely). It’s going to be a longer session so even if you’re able to stop by for a little bit, it’s a great idea to have a rotating number of people attending to keep up the visibility. It’s your contract so come on over!
You can RSVP via our Facebook event page here: http://www.facebook.com/events/133815246772544/
With such a successful showing at our first bargaining session with the university, let’s keep the momentum going for our second session! Come see and be a part of the bargaining process, and all members have a right to vote in the caucus! Join us and invite your friends!
When: Wednesday, June 6th at 1:00 p.m.
Where: Rooms 603 and 610, Student Center East
