Friday, April 7- Saturday, April 8
UIC-GEO will be hosting this year’s AGEL (Alliance of Graduate Employee Locals) spring conference. The conference will be Friday April 7th and Saturday April 8th. The theme of the conference is Higher Education Organizing.
Friday will primarily be an organizing day, with informational union outreach occurring at Northwestern and the University of Chicago. This is an exciting opportunity to see first hand how unions are built! Saturday will be workshops and plenary sessions focused on Higher Education organizing in the current political environment. AGEL is a communal space to meet graduate students from all over the country and fight for better working conditions together!
GEO’s 10 Year Anniversary Social
Thursday, April 13, 5-7pm, Jak’s Tap (901 W. Jackson)
Join us Thursday April 13th from 5-7pm to celebrate the 10 year anniversary of GEO’s first union contract! Drinks and food will be provided. GEO leadership and stewards will also present a program on the history and future of our union.
The program will be from 5:30 to 6pm. Come meet your fellow union members and celebrate all the gains we have made over the past ten years. We’ve come a long way since getting paid in Dragon Dollars! (Click here for the Facebook event.)
March for Science

The March for Science will take place Saturday April 22nd at 9am (Location TBD).
UIC faculty, staff, students, and our allies will form a contingent for the March for Science Chicago. The next planning meeting is April 6th at 4pm, at AHS 622. All UIC faculty, staff, and students are welcome.
Teach-Out for Illinois Higher Education
Thursday, April 27
Fight for your students! Higher education has not been appropriately funded since before 2000. Talk to your chapter chair about attending the April 27 Teach Out and join Illinois Federation of Teachers, UIC United Faculty Local 6456, UPI, and UIC Graduate Employees Organization to demonstrate that you’ve had enough!
Summer isn’t over until we say it is! Join the GEO for a Welcome Back Block Party on 28 August, from 3-7 PM. It will take place on Green Street, south of Van Buren (behind the GEO office). We’ll have tacos from Big Star, beer, and games. Stop by to catch up with colleagues you haven’t seen in …
